New Pots: Summer 2025
After pottering away quite hard recently,
I have a goodly stock of pots to bring to
upcoming fairs. It frees me up to play with
some evolving ideas. Maybe some of the
pieces on the left will show the way.
The top piece, a fruit plate, has colored
clays ("slips") under the glaze. The
surface was then scored in a cross hatch
pattern. The white glaze settles into the
grooves highlighting the pattern.
The middle piece is fluted with a nice tool I
recently bought and more slips provide
color under a white glaze.
The final piece is bowl that was thickly
thrown and then faceted with a
cabinet maker's scraper - tip: you have to
let it get rusty first! The glaze combination,
black, breaking to red, is a new discovery
from old glazes I had never combined
before!
